On Monday, October 20 from 4-5 p.m., visit the Ellis Library Colonnade for a celebration of MU football. Todd Donoho, author and sports journalist, will be on hand to talk about the history of MU football and Truman the Tiger and to sign books. Truman the Tiger will also make a special appearance. And don’t forget to check out the special exhibit: “Of Thy Noble Past: The Early Years of MU Football.” Refreshments will be provided and children are encouraged to attend this free event.
Congratulations to Jee and Benny Davis on the birth of their baby boy on Friday evening. Han Sidney Davis weighed 8 pounds 3 ounces and was 21 ¾ inches long.
The MU Libraries will hold its annual Homecoming Open House on Saturday, October 25 in the Ellis Library Colonnade from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be refreshments, library tours, fun freebies and a children’s craft activity.
Free concert series tickets are available for any staff members who would like to help out with this event. Please contact Shannon Cary or Sheila Voss by October 15, if you want to participate.

On September 15, a book was returned to Ellis Library with a note stating: “A proffesor (sic) in the Agriculture Department here at Northwest Missouri State University was cleaning his office and found this book. He checked it out over 40 years ago but wanted to return it to its rightful owner.”
The book is titled Metabolism in the rumen by E.F. Annison and D. Lewis and was published in 1959 by Wiley & Sons. We cataloged it under the Dewey number: 599.735 An77m (accession #915111).
The last time it was properly checked out and returned was 1965. It was then moved to a seminar room (stamped SEMINAR NON-CIRCULATING on the due date slip) from which the professor must have taken it. Access Services usually searches for lost items for a whole year before we official withdraw them, this one was marked off the shelf list January 1971.
At the time VET also had a copy under the Dewey number (accession #925569). They currently have a copy in MERLIN under the LC number: QP151.A5 1959 (which may be the same book but lacks an accession number in the record for comparison). We’ve reinstated the returned book under the LC number and sent it up to the stacks since that seminar room no longer exist.
In July, Bob Almony received an official statement from Chancellor Deaton designating him as Librarian IV Emeritus. The letter reads, “With this title, we honor you and recognize the many contributions you have made to the University of Missouri-Columbia during your tenure here.”

About two weeks ago a new custodial service, ISS/BG Services, began working at Ellis Library. There is now a day porter on duty from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m and a night porter from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. everyday except Saturdays. Please contact Pat Jones if you have any questions/comments about the new custodial service.
There will be a baby shower for Nora Tamm on October 16th from 2-4pm. More details to come.
