Call for New Members: Communications Committee

The Communications Committee is looking for two new members: one staff member and one librarian. This is a 2-year term.

The group’s primary objectives are:

  1. To undertake activities that establish a clear and positive image of the libraries in the university community;
  2. To build an internal marketing culture by keeping staff informed of marketing activities and goals and by encouraging staff to participate and contribute ideas for marketing endeavors; and
  3. To establish a consistency in communication methods and style by providing advice and coordinating the planning, development and production of promotional products, events and activities for the libraries.

Thank you to Michaelle Dorsey and Rebecca Graves for their exemplary service on this committee for the past two years.

Please contact Shannon Cary (carysn@missouri.edu or 882-4702) if you are interested in serving on this committee.

National Library Week Thanks

Thank you to everyone who made the party on Wednesday such a huge success. Patrons really enjoyed the cupcakes, punch, pencils and Post-it notes. Several people exclaimed “I love the library” when they were told we were celebrating National Library Week.

Special thanks to the staff members who helped us hand out refreshments: Mary Claire Amann, Jack Batterson, Felicity Dykas and Colleen Smith. Thanks also to the Security Staff for helping with set up, keeping cupcake eaters in the designated areas and getting ice from the staff lounge. Thanks to Dustin Hoffmann for taking pictures.

Vounteers Needed for National Library Week Party

The Communications Committee is sponsoring the MU Libraries 2nd Annual National Library Week Celebration at Ellis Library. From 11 a.m. to about 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, we will be handing out punch, cupcakes and other goodies, such as Post-It notes and pencils, to the patrons of Ellis Library. This will take place in the colonnade near the North Entrance.

For those of you who don’t remember or weren’t around, we did this last year, and the patrons were very excited about free cupcakes and surprised that there is such a thing as National Library Week.

Due to everyone’s busy schedule, the members of the Communications Committee are asking for help in handing out treats to our patrons. We especially need volunteers from 12 – 1:30 p.m. Please contact Shannon Cary at carysn@missouri.edu if you would like to help.

Even if you don’t have time to volunteer, we encourage everyone to stop by for a cupcake!

And don’t forget to wear your MU Libraries t-shirt on Wednesday to demonstrate your pride during National Library Week.

MU Libraries Seek Student Ambassadors

The Communications Committee is currently seeking students who could serve as volunteer libraries ambassadors for the 2008-2009 academic year. For more information about this program, visit http://mulibraries.missouri.edu/about/studentambassadors.htm. If you know of a student that you would like to recommend for this program or if you have an idea about recruiting students, please contact Shannon Cary at carysn@missouri.edu or 882-4703.

Marketing Discussion Series: Signs, Signs, Everywhere a Sign

Tuesday, February 26
10-11 a.m.
Reference Conference Room (Ellis 159)
Ellis Library

The Communications Committee invites you to attend a marketing discussion. We will be discussing signs—both permanent and temporary—in the MU Libraries. (The focus will be on Ellis Library, but these ideas can carry over to the branch libraries.) Please bring your concerns about current signage and ideas for ways to improve signs in the libraries.

We hope you will join us for a lively discussion. Snacks will be provided!
