You’re Invited to a Community Conversation

What would improve your quality of life? That’s the question Daniel Boone Regional Library staff will be asking at a series of community conversations to be held in Boone and Callaway Counties during February. One has been scheduled specifically for academic library staff on Wednesday, February 15 at 10 a.m. at Ellis Library.

Please come to this informal one-hour session that will be led by a Daniel Boone Regional Library librarian who will ask conversation-starting questions. The library’s long-range planning team will review all the ideas and comments that come up, look for trends, set goals and brainstorm ways the library can enhance its current services.

“We’re starting our strategic planning process, and we want to know how the library can better serve the community,” said Melissa Carr, Daniel Boone Regional Library director. “By asking general questions about our communities as a whole, we can take a look at how the library might fit into the overall picture.” The new plan will begin 2018.

If you can’t attend this meeting, you’re welcome to fill out a brief online survey, attend one of the public community forums or host your own community conversation among friends, family or co-workers. Find details at www.dbrl.org/conversations.

Ask the Librarians Function Updated on Libraries’ Site

The “Ask the Librarians!” pull-out tab (located on the right side of many of the libraries’ web pages) has been revised so that it defaults to our chat service.  Previously, it had offered a form that patrons could fill out and submit.

This will allow our patrons to connect with assistance in real-time from almost any of our web pages, giving us the opportunity to help them when and where they need it on our site. Chat service is staffed almost 24/7 – with service provided by MU librarians and graduate assistants during the weekdays and by a third-party chat service after hours and on weekends.

Many thanks to Judy and Mathew for updating our pages.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Undergraduate Visual Art & Design Showcase

I would like to invite you to the 2017 Undergraduate Visual Art & Design Showcase, which is set for Jan. 30-Feb. 3 in Jesse Hall. After a very successful inaugural showcase last year, the 2017 event is shaping up to be even better. I hope you will join us as we celebrate undergraduate excellence in art and design.

This is a venue for Mizzou undergraduate students to display and discuss their scholarly work in an exhibition setting. Student work will be on display and will feature a variety of artistic expression and applied design, including works of photography, graphic design, architectural design, theatre costume design, painting, textile and apparel management, digital storytelling, documentary, floral design and more. A four-person guest jury will award $10,000 in professional development funds to the most outstanding student work. All of the students’ work will be on display in Jesse Hall from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. throughout the showcase.

We are very excited about our keynote speaker, Sarah Leen. Sarah is a Mizzou alumna and the Director of Photography at National Geographic.
