Eat for Life: Now Enrolling for Spring 2012
Discover the benefits of this innovative approach to weight management.  This ten week program uses mind-body practices (meditations and yoga), the principles of mindful and intuitive eating, skills training, and group support to guide you in making lifestyle changes that will help you create a healthier relationship to your food, mind, and body. If you have a history of chronic dieting, have rigid “healthy” rules about eating, or find yourself eating when you’re stressed, bored, or unhappy, this may be the program for you. Cost is $50 ($25 rebate if you attend 9 of 10 classes/comment on discussion board posts).

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction: Now Enrolling for Spring 2012

Helping employees manage stress effectively is a key goal of Healthy for Life, the Thomas E. Atkins Wellness Program. The wellness program offers eight-week mindfulness-based stress reduction classes at minimal cost to benefit-eligible employees looking to manage today’s busy lifestyles in a healthy way. For more information or to sign up, please contact Lynn Rossy, Ph.D. at RossyL@umsystem.edu. This eight–week class teaching meditation, yoga and other mind-body techniques for managing stress. For more information about MBSR, visit the Program section of this website. There is a $40 registration fee, $20 reimbursement if you attend seven of the eight classes.

Classes: Wednesdays (February 1 – March 21) (5:30-7:30 p.m., Except for March 7 & 14 the class goes from 6-8 p.m.)
Full Day Retreat: Saturday, March 10 (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

Workplace Fitness Opportunities
Take advantage of these classes that fit your budget. Full payment is due at the beginning of the first class and space is limited. Please contact the instructor directly to register or for questions. All classes are designed so that exercises can be performed in work clothes.

  • Jan. 9-Feb. 27: Hatha Yoga. Missouri Psychiatric Center. Class meets on Mondays from 12:10-12:50 and costs $24 for the eight-week session. Pre-registration is required. Must have 10 participants to begin the class. This is a welcoming environment and is perfect for those who may be suffering from arthritis, chronic disease, and minor joint discomfort, along with healthy individuals. Healthy Eating Brown Bag

Campus Facilities Training Unit is hosting a Healthy Holiday Eating Brown Bag seminar. Recipes and food samples will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring your own lunch. De-stress this semester through massage therapy. Licensed Massage Therapist Jeff Rioux provides this service in his office at University Hospital (GL-20). He also provides department chair massage in three-hour blocks. To schedule an individual appointment or chair massage, call Healthy for Life at 884-1312.

30 minutes: $35 Mondays & Tuesdays: 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
60 minutes: $50 Wednesdays: 1-7 p.m.
90 minutes: $70 Thursdays: 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
