As you are registering consider joining us for Workshop 5 – Preservation at Scale (afternoon of September 5th and morning of September 6th).  We have a great line-up of speakers and plenty of time for discussion among colleagues also wrestling with the issues of scale (hardware, software, policies, organizational structure, etc.)

Healthy for Life Update

Be more present for your life and make better choices – Sign up NOW for the Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction Program!

Helping employees manage stress effectively is a key goal of Healthy for Life. The wellness program offers eight-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction classes at deep discounts to employees looking to manage today’s busy lifestyles in a healthy way. You will learn mindfulness meditation, yoga, and body scan as well as important information about stress, communication, and wellness.  Cost:  $40 for faculty, staff, retirees, and spouses/partners. Attend 7 of 8 classes and receive $20 rebate.

Yoga Classes Enrolling

Stretch your way into fall with yoga.  Classes are held at the Missouri Psychiatric Gym, ground floor of the hospital on the east side near the VA Tunnel. This class is suitable for all levels and is helpful in learning balance, toning, relaxation and strength.  Bring a mat and wear clothing you can stretch in.. Cost $24, required the first day of class and cash preferred, but checks are accepted.

  • Mondays 12:10-12:50, 8 weeks beginning August 26 (no class on Labor Day)
  • Fridays 12:10-12:50, 8 week class September 6, 13, 20, October 4, 11, 18, November 15 and 22

Information and Action Items from Library Management Team 8/6/13

INFORMATION ITEM: Still no word from Provost about FY 2014 budget.  Selectors have been given budgets based on last year’s numbers.

INFORMATION ITEM: A report from the LMT retreat is being reviewed and will be made available soon.

INFORMATION ITEM: Rhonda Whithaus will be the Library contact for the MU Conflict of Interest Oversight Committee.  She replaces Karen Darling who retired in July, 2013.

INFORMATION ITEM: LMT discussed the membership of the Collection Steering Committee (taking into account the various retirements, retirement plans and rotations of current members). The topic will be revisited at a later meeting when Deb Ward is present as the representative of Health Sciences Library.

INFORMATION ITEM: LMT reviewed and discussed the agenda for the 8/7/13 MOBIUS Executive Board meeting. Concerns were raised about upcoming Sierra implementation.  Also discussed was a lack of explanation about upcoming “votes” (Did enough discussions take place at membership and Library levels?).

  • Action Item: Jim Cogswell will communicate concerns to President of the MOBIUS Executive Board.

Open Job Searches

Librarian and Archivists: 

The search is beginning for the combined Head of Acquisitions and Collection Development position.  Under the general supervision of the Associate Director for Access, Collections and Technical Services, the person in this position administers and provides leadership for the Acquisitions and Collection Development Department of the MU Libraries. General responsibilities of the Department include: reporting and analysis of materials spending, including statistical reports and financial reports related to the acquisition of materials for the Libraries’ collections in print and other formats; oversight of, and accounting for, the expenditure of the Libraries’ $7 million-plus materials budget and a variety of gift funds, driven coordination with subject librarians on selection matters; supervision of serials and electronic resources management; supervision of physical processing and some preservation activity. Will represent MU at state and national collections meetings.
