Take the 10 week Eat for Life Program and discover the benefits of this innovative approach to weight management and re-discovering the joy of eating.  If you have a history of chronic dieting, have rigid “healthy” rules about eating, or find yourself eating when you’re stressed, bored, or unhappy, this may be the program for you. Using the principles of intuitive eating, mind-body practices, and group support learn to make lifestyle changes that help you create a healthier relationship to your food, mind, and body.

In Person Class: September 11 – November 20 (12 – 1pm) at Memorial Union.

Online Class: Weeks of September 14 – December 7 (except Thanksgiving week)

Become a self-management leader

Attend a FREE instructor training to help individuals learn how make exercise a part of their regular routine. The Central Missouri Regional Arthritis Center (CEMRAC) is looking for volunteers to lead Walk with Ease and/or the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program in your community.  In return, CEMRAC will cover the cost of your training and provide materials for your class.


Walk with Ease

Walk with Ease
is designed to help people living with arthritis better manage their pain.  It’s also ideal for people without arthritis who want to make walking a regular habit.  Research shows that walking is not only good for joints, but also helps improve the health of the heart, lungs and bones.  Walking can also help manage weight which can reduce one’s risk of arthritis in the knee, heart disease and diabetes.  Walk with Ease is a structured walking program that offers support, information and tools to help participants develop successful exercise routines.  During the program, participants will learn proper stretching and pain management techniques, as well as build stamina and walking pace.  The program can even be modified to meet the needs of individual participants so that each person can develop an exercise routine that fits their unique goals.

  • The next Walk with Ease instructor training is scheduled on September 28, 2012 from 12:30 pm – 5:00 pm in Columbia. Space is limited.

Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program
The Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program (formerly known as PACE) is designed specifically for people with arthritis but is appropriate for people without arthritis.  It uses gentle activities to help increase joint flexibility and range of motion and help maintain muscle strength.  The program is designed to fit any fitness level – with exercises done while sitting or standing.  The exercises in the program, however, should not replace therapeutic exercises prescribed by a therapist.  Participants previously enrolled in the program have experienced such benefits as increased functional ability, increased self-behaviors, decreased, pain, and decreased depression.

  • The next Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program instructor training is scheduled on September 29, 2012 from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm in Columbia. Space is limited.

Race for the Cure, 5K

Are you interested in saving a life? The 3rd annual Susan G. Komen Mid-Missouri Race for the Cure will be held on the MU campus on September 16th. The race raises money for breast cancer education and awareness, diagnosis, treatment, mental and financial health services for survivors, and research to find a cure. 75% of the proceeds stay in the Mid-Missouri area, while the remaining 25% is granted out on a national level for ground-breaking cancer research.
