Rescheduled: Interactive Skit on Teambuilding and Leadership Development

Rescheduled: – Interactive Skit on Teambuilding and Leadership Development
Sept. 9, 2011
Time: 1-3 p.m.
Place: 4F51-A Ellis
Presenters: MU Trainers’ Network

The final workshop is an interactive skit based on the book written by Patrick Lencioni ‘The Five Dysfunctions of a Team.’ This is a dynamic training program in which audience members interact with each other and with skit characters, assessing character behavior and comparing their recommendations for improving the skit team. In addition, the skit provides audience members with the opportunity to talk about the listening skills demonstrated by the characters as well as conflict competency, self-monitoring of emotions, etc. As such, this workshop helps to bring together the skill awareness gained in the previous three workshops

Attendance is voluntary and open to all library employees, per supervisor approval. I will sent a meeting notice via Outlook; RSPV’s are requested for head count purposes, only.

Healthy for Life Update

Stress-Reduction Meditation
Research over the past two decades suggests that engaging in a regular mindfulness meditation practice can reduce stress and enhance overall psychological and physical wellbeing.  Find out for yourself by taking advantage of the sitting meditation sessions across campus each week. All faculty and staff are welcome on a drop-in basis, and no previous experience with meditation is necessary. If you can’t make the noon time sitting meditation group, consider listening to one of the audio recordings.  Join Healthy for Life for one of the following times and locations:

  • Mondays: Heinkel Building, Room 10 (12:15-12:45 p.m.)
  • Wednesdays: Law School Bldg (Hulston Hall), Room 222 (1:15-1:45 p.m.) *In September 2011 this class moves to Room 332A
  • Wednesdays: University Hospital, J Otto Lottes Health Sciences Library, Room 146 (Starting Sept. 7, 2011 from 12:15-12:45 p.m.)

Discover the benefits of this innovative approach to weight management and re-discovering the joy of eating.  This ten week program uses mind-body practices (meditation and yoga), the principles of mindful and intuitive eating, skills training, and group support to guide you in making lifestyle changes that will help you create a healthier relationship to your food, mind, and body. If you have a history of chronic dieting, have rigid “healthy” rules about eating, or find yourself eating when you’re stressed, bored, or unhappy, this may be the program for you.  This non-judgmental, non-diet approach helps you use your internal physical cues to guide what and when you eat.

Healthy for Life’s regular 10 week program on creating a healthy relationship with your food, body, and mind is now a course you can take online in your own home on your own time.  Video and audio components teach you the foundational mindfulness practices (meditation and yoga) and the BASICS of Mindful Eating.

This is an exciting opportunity to take a class in the comfort of your own home.  All you need is a computer and, of course, the time to commit to taking the class.  Everyone that signs up will be going through the class at the same time.  You will have a week to complete each section.  There are practice exercises to complete each day.  All is completely explained on Blackboard once you get signed in.

Read what participants have to say about the class:

“EFL has been a transformational experience…my relationship to food has changed dramatically.  I actually think about food much less than before — now it’s rarely on my mind until I begin to experience hunger.  And I am savoring my food infinitely more…EFL embodies an intuitive, gracious approach to living, and I am captivated by the gentleness and kindness inherent in the process.”

–Linda Dyer

“It is amazing that 10 weeks have gone past…I will use the “make peace with food” for a long time to come, that has been the most successful tip. I don’t have forbidden food, or food that is “bad”. I can have it just in the quantity that will satisfy…I thank you for the insight and the motivation.  You have made this a successful experience that has changed my life.”

–Amy Hampton

Free Stuff for College Colors Day

Wear your Black and Gold colors at work on September 2, College Colors Day!

College Colors Day, which celebrates both “back-to-school” and the kick-off of college football season, seeks to celebrate and promote the spirit that makes college traditions great. Alumni, faculty, fans, staff and students are encouraged to wear apparel of their favorite college throughout the day Friday, September 2. Mizzou will play the first home football game of the season against Miami University Sept. 3.

As part of the College Colors Day celebration, we have been given some fun MU stuff. We have pads of post-it notes, backpack reflectors, key chain/flashlights, and even some Mizzou duct tape. If you would like any of this, please stop by the Administration Office. It is available on a first come, first serve basis.

MU encourages staff to partake in College Colors Day by displaying your department’s Tiger Spirit and sharing the photo. If you take a photo of your desk or office decorated, you can post it on the MU Black and Gold Facebook Page.
