Spring Cleaning Soon? Don’t Throw Out Those Old Jeans!

MU’s RSVP Center (Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention) is collecting donations of denim for this year’s Denim Day! They will happily take old jeans, denim shirts and yes, even that old jean jacket. Donations will be used to make items which promote awareness of the purpose for Denim Day. Donations can be delivered to 104 Ellis (Leo’s office), or to the RSVP Center, G210 MU Student Center or the Craft Studio, N12 Memorial Union. Feel free to drop things off at 104 Ellis anytime the week of April 18.

Denim Day has been internationally celebrated since 1999 in protest of an Italian High Court ruling that overturned a rape conviction because the victim was wearing jeans. Enraged by the verdict, women of the Italian Legislature protested the decision by wearing jeans to work. As news of the decision spread, so did the protest. On April 28, 2011 universities, colleges, junior high and high schools, businesses, organizations and individuals will participate in Denim Day events. Join the campaign—step forward take a stand against rape. For more info about Denim Day visit: http://health.mo.gov/living/families/womenshealth/denimday/index.php.
