  1. This is great that Shannon included health updates from healthy for Life.

One good way to stay healthy is to stay current on your vaccines. For example, many people are not getting the pneumonia shot (Pneumovax) as often as they should. People who are over the age of 65 or those with a concurrent illness as any listed below might need to get the pneumonia shot every five years:

    Diabetes mellitus (sugar)
    Lung disease (not only asthma)
    Heart, kidney, liver disease
    Alcoholism
    Sickle-cell disease
    Cancer or HIV/AIDS
    Do not have a spleen
    Have spinal fluid leak
Those who take steroids such as prednisone

This information was near the bottom of the page and has important recommended immunization schedules for children between the ages of 0 and 18.

This has very useful information for parents. Go near the bottom of the page for the list of possible side effects from vaccines.

This is updated almost weekly with the most recent update on Oct. 2, 2009. This update has general information on the H1N1 and pregnant women. The clinical trials of the new H1N1 vacccine and its use in pregnant womean started in September 2009 and will end in July 2010. Did you know that pregnant women make up 6% of the flu deaths while they make up only 1% of the population? Another reason for pregnant women to get the flu shot is that the shot will also protect the baby. Babies cannot get the flu shot until they are six months old.
