  1. I don’t generally go out of my way to listen to Classical music, but I thought the Esterhazy Quartet sounded great when they played here, especially as the music wafted down into the Bookmark Cafe while I was having lunch.

That said, when I arrived at the Reference Desk shortly after the concert ended, the grad student at the desk told me that there had been a complaint. I’m not sure if it was about the music in general, or the volume of the music, or something else. If I’m not mistaken, one complaint is rather fewer than we’ve had regarding other musical performances in this space (especially during heavy study weeks), so that’s good. Should we perhaps spot-poll patrons in the building with a single question: live music in library today – like, dislike, indifferent?

  2. Generally, we get pretty positive response about the concerts. And our audience has been growing pretty steadily. Last week the weather was bad, so we didn’t have a huge crowd, but it was still quite good, with a lot of students.

We do periodically get a complaint, but your idea about spot-polling is good.

One thing we have to do is make sure students know where they can go to find quiet study space. I will try to include that info in all announcements about the concerts.
