Top 250 Websites by Page Title and URL

The top 250 websites

  • by Page Title
  • by Page URL

are now available in an Excel workbook posted on the staff site for your viewing.  The glossary for the terms used in Google Analytics can also be found on the staff page on the lower right-hand corner of the screen under Administration/Statistics.

http://mulibraries.missouri.edu/staff/default.htm

Page URLs are case sensitive in Google Analytics so if a term in a URL is capitalized in one URL and not in its duplicate, there be two URLs listed for the same web page.

For example:

Journalism Library:

In the fall of 2010, the web browsers on the computers in Journalism were set to

http://mulibraries.missouri.edu/Journalism as the home page.

The Journalism Library home page is officially http://mulibraries.missouri.edu/journalism with a lower case “j.”

Journalism will have two entries in the Page URL listing and one entry in the Page Title listing.  The workstation browsers were modified so they now point to the lower case “j” but there will always be two URLS for that period in time.

Gateway page:

The stats for http://mulibraries.missouri.edu/default.aspx are recorded separately from

http://mulibraries.missouri.edu/ even though they refer to the same web page.

Test pages usually have not been assigned a Page Title and will be lumped together under (not set). Many new pages were created last year so there will be little or no comparison with the previous year.  The introduction of LibGuides naturally saw a decrease in the page hits for some of those guides in the Resource Content Management System.   LibGuide URLs are numeric so you cannot tell what the page is unless you search the site or add a prefix to the URL listed in the spreadsheet.

https://libraryguides.missouri.edu

LibGuide URL in Google Analytics:

/content.php?pid=92324 /

https://libraryguides.missouri.edu/content.php?pid=92324 / [J2100 News ]

LibGuides also has its own statistical analysis program as part of the service.

Last fall, the Web Advisory Group rearranged the content on the Gateway giving more prominence to the “Contact Us” feature as well as other services and collections.

“Contact Us” went up 141%.

ALCTS Webinar: Aiming for a Robust Metadata Infrastructure for the Future

August 1, 2011
1:30 – 3:00 pm
Ellis 4F51A

Description: Resource Description and Access (RDA) is the name of the new cataloging standard slated to replace AACR2.  The Library of Congress, the National Agricultural Library, and the National Library of Medicine have jointly determined that to achieve a viable and robust metadata infrastructure for the future, RDA should be in that future. This decision was not made lightly, but based on a substantive test using RDA in which 23 libraries and the three U.S. national libraries participated. This webinar will share the thoughts of LC’s Associate Librarian for Library Services, Deanna Marcum, and its Director for Acquisitions & Bibliographic Access, Beacher Wiggins. Dr. Marcum will give her reactions to reviewing and accepting the recommendations of the U.S. RDA Test Coordinating Committee. Mr. Wiggins, a Coordinating Committee co-chair, will describe the test, findings, and analyses that led to the recommendation to implement RDA not sooner than January 2013.

Presenters:  Deanna Marcum, Associate Librarian for Library Services, Library of Congress and Beacher Wiggins, Director for Acquisitions & Bibliographic Access, Library of Congress

Reminder – MU Libraries’ Skill Awareness Workshop #2

Space is available for the upcoming Skill Awareness workshop on “Developing Conflict Competency,” July 27, from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m., 4F51-A Ellis. For this and other skills workshops, attendance is voluntary and open to all library employees, per supervisor approval. You can rsvp to Leo at AgnewL@missouri.edu or simply show up on Monday.

See http://mulibraries.missouri.edu/staff/committees/staffdevelopment/programs/2011-2012/Program_calendar.htm for a full description of the Skill Awareness series.

DAC Brown Bag Book Discussion

The Mizzou Reads book selection for summer 2011 is Zeitoun, by Dave Eggers.  A Brown Bag discussion about this book will be held on August 10, 12-1pm in 4F51-A Ellis Library for any interested library staff.  The discussion will be moderated by a facilitator from Student Life, with a focus on diversity issues.

Mizzou Reads is a program sponsored by Student Life at Mizzou.  All incoming freshmen are asked to read the same book before they arrive on campus for fall semester.  Students participate in small group discussions about the book during Fall Welcome on August 18.  The discussions are a way to foster community among the new students.

This program is now in its 8th year and Student Life considers it a success.  For more information on this program, visit http://bit.ly/pLP7Np.

While staff do not generally participate in the Mizzou Reads program, the MU Libraries Diversity Action Committee thought that this book would provide a good discussion for interested library staff, especially on the topic of diversity issues.

Zeitoun was published in 2009 and tells the story of a Syrian-American man and his family living in New Orleans, Louisiana.  The events take place before, during, and in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.  Here is a link to the book on WorldCat: http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/332257182.  The book is also discounted at the MU Bookstore.

Attendance to the book discussion is voluntary and open to all library employees, per supervisor approval.  Bring your lunch.  RSVPs are requested for head count purposes only.

DAC also intends to do a book discussion for the Columbia One Read book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, by Rebecca Skloot.  This will be held in September at the same time as other area One Read events.  For more information about this program, visit http://oneread.dbrl.org/.

Library Assembly Meeting
Tuesday, June 21, 2011
1:00 – 2:00 pm
159 Ellis Library

Attending:  Members: Laura Buck, Erin Zeller, Gary Cox, Matt Stottle, Steve Clayton, Stephen Stanton, Mark Ellis, Bette Stuart, Suzy Bent, June DeWeese

Ex-officio: Ann Riley (LMT), Jim Cogswell (LMT), Deb Ward (LMT), Felicity Dykas (MULAC)

Guests: From Digitization Unit, Catalog Dept.: Elaine Huntsucker and Regina Guccione

Absent: PT Martin

  • Announcement:
    • Director Jim Cogswell: LMT held retreat last week.  A written report will be out week of July 5th.  Planning an Open Forum July 21st, 2- 3:30 pm.   Focus will be on staff input.  The biannual All Staff meeting will be August 16th. (CORRECTION – it will be August 18th).
    • Committee Chair Bette Stuart:  Library Assembly election results:  Jack Batterson will represent Cataloging.  Karen Witt will represent Special Collections.  The Acquisitions vote ended in a tie. A representative will be named after this week’s run-off election.
    • MULAC Chair Felicity Dykas:  This is her last Library Assembly as MULAC representative.  Next month, MULAC will be represented by incoming chair Anne Barker.

  • Dual Appointments:  What are the implications of employees who work in two different departments?  Should they be allowed to vote for representatives in both departments?  If only one, which one? If both, can they be a representative?  Can they potentially represent both departments?  Or have concurrent appointments – one representing each department?
    • Discussion:  after discussion it was concluded that this was a bylaws issue.
    • A suggestion was made to create a bylaws subcommittee.
    • Some felt the issue should just be dealt with rather than creating another subcommittee.
    • Chair Elect Gary Cox suggested that we discuss by email.
  • Follow-up discussion of Ex-Officio members and their membership status.
    • Roberts Rules definition of ex-officio was distributed by email prior to the meeting suggesting that members in such status are, by the positions they hold, full members with votes and all privileges.
    • Discussion shifted to whether or not specific members, in this case ex-officio, should be non-voting members?
      • List of ex-officio members of Library Assembly:
        • Library Management Team (LMT) members = up to 4
        • Staff Representative Committee (SRC) Chair  = 1
        • MU Librarians and Archivists Committee MULAC Chair, LMT =1
    • Jim Cogswell, as Director of Library and member of LMT would prefer to not have a vote.
    • It was pointed out that it isn’t really a decision making body so there really aren’t a lot of votes.
    • Also since every department is represented, does having groups like SRC and MULAC present double representation?
      • Some asked, “If needed, what does the department representation lack?”
      • Others felt the unique roles of MULAC and SRC merit full membership.
        • MULAC = Librarian/Archivist representation.
        • SRC = an ombudsman role.
          • SRC is not department specific.
          • SRC is not classified/academic specific.
    • Ann Riley as someone who was on the task force to create the charge of the Library Assembly:  It was the intent of the charge for the Library Assembly to control its own bylaws.  It was also discussed and decided that bodies such as SRC and MULAC would have full memberships.
  • Draft Library Assembly Review – Draft of the survey were shared.
    • After considerable discussion the Assembly agreed upon 7 questions to be distributed via survey monkey.
    • Ann Riley is going to share electronically with Library Assembly so that they can review the text one more time before the survey gets distributed to the Library Staff.
