| Description: | This beautiful Lutheran Bible was printed in 1644. The large brass center plate has an engraving dated 1652. The book seems to have been used as a family Bible in the nineteenth century, and it has inscriptions in English and German. We recently featured this Bible in a mini-exhibit at Ellis Library. | Condition/Repair: | The text block looks sturdy, and there are traces of previous repairs. The conservator will stabilize the detached pages, make new spine liners and hinges, and reback the original spine in leather. |
