Published: | Edinburgh, A. Donaldson, 1774. |
Description: | Hannah Glasse's Art of Cookery was one of the first cookbooks written for home cooks rather than fine chefs, and it was very influential. A widow with ten children, Glasse originally published the book in 1747 in an attempt to support her family. The book is famous for containing the first British recipe for curry, as well as many other quintessential British dishes. This book was featured in the 2012 Food Sense symposium on campus; more information and a recipe can be found on the Special Collections blog. |
Condition/Repair: | The sewing structure is broken. The boards and endpapers are detached. The text block, however, is in good condition. The conservator will resew the book and reback it in leather, saving the original boards and the front endpaper. |
