Samuel Richardson wrote three popular novels in the 18th century including Pamela (1740), Clarissa (1748) and this novel Sir Charles Grandison originally published in 1753. Richardson developed a new literary technique for these texts called the epistolary form, in which the story is reveled through a series of letters. The popularity of his texts was instant with the publication of Pamela. Richardson did not start writing until age 51 previous to that he was a well known printer and publisher. |
