Summer Picnic, July 2001
The 2001 picnic, with the theme of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game,” was held at Cosmo-Bethel Park. It was a hot July day, but the lake below the picnic shelter provided a cool breeze. Thanks to a generous donation from Bob Almony, there were MU Concert Series tickets to raffle off, for the benefit of the Mid-Missouri Food Bank. Karen Darling and her two well-trained dogs, Mystery and Magic, put on a show, and a stalwart group of MU Libraries men practiced their batting and catching skills for hours. The younger kids broke a baseball-shaped pinata made by MULSA Social Co-Chair Dyanna Pursell. Social Co-Chair Melissa Skinner put in heroic planning efforts, but was sidelined by an accident the morning of the picnic.
