MULSA Community Service Report for the MULSA Summer Charity Drive
and Raffle held on June 10, 2005:Thanks to everyone who gave money and material goods for the 2005 MULSA Charity
Drive and Raffle. We raised $199.50 total for the Central Missouri Food Bank
and Columbia Second Chance. In addition to the cash, we received lots of material
donations for both charities and Columbia Second Chance reported $51 in craft
sales. The raffle was held at the MULSA annual picnic on Friday, June 10.

15th News Notes):Since the picnic, weâve collected 37 pounds of food for the Central
Missouri Food Bank, lots of material goods for Columbia Second Chance and
a few items for the Bluebird Closet. Thanks to everyone who has donated to
these charities!MULSA Community Service Report for August 2005 (published in the
Aug 12th News Notes):Thanks to everyone who has donated materials through the collection bins in
the staff lounge. Special thanks to those who donated money to the Voluntary
Action Center (and congratulations if you won a door prize). This month, we
have:
- Raised $30 for the Voluntary Action Centerâs Christmas in July program.
- Collected 35 pounds of food for the Central Missouri Food Bank.
- Collected kidsâ clothes, toothbrushes/toothpaste/floss, and a bundle
of kidâs books for the Bluebird Closet at Cole Camp Elementary School
(Cole Camp, MO) and the Rainbow House.- Collected more material goods for the Columbia Second Chance.
- Shared goods within our library community through the FREE bin. Weâve
shared cleaning supplies, personal hygiene products, heated curlers, stickers,
matted prints, playing cards, calendars, Christmas tree decorations, puzzles,
and MORE!MULSA Community Service Report for October2005 (published in the
Oct 14th News Notes):Weâve had an overwhelming response to our Hurricane Katrina disaster
relief efforts. Thanks to everyone who donated time, money, and materials
to this important community service.Special thanks to Jim Cogswell and Bob Almony for approving the collection
canisters for Hurricane Katrina disaster relief and to Pat Jones and the Security
staff for helping with that public effort. In total, we collected $104.90
for the American Red Cross through the collection canisters.In total, we collected $341.40 for the American Red Cross. The other $236.50
was donated by concerned staff in the days following the disaster and during
the Mad Hatterâs New Staff Tea Party.Disaster relief came in many forms. In addition to the cash for the American
Red Cross, MULSA collected and distributed these material goods:
- 3 sets of school supplies were given to the Columbia Catholic School on
behalf of the American Red Cross call for supplies.- 1 bag of childrenâs clothes and 13 bags of adult clothes were given
to the Salvation Army.- 2 bags of housewares and 1 bag of bedding were given to the Salvation
Army.Many toothbrushes, tubes of toothpastes, and floss containers were
given to Wilkes Blvd United Methodist Church to be used in the UnitedMethodist
Committee on Relief health kits.- More than a dozen Happy Meal toys were given to Memorial Baptist Church
to be used in Kidâs Care Kits distributed through the Alabama Cooperative
Baptist Fellowship.- 12 pounds of food was given to the Central Missouri Food Bank.
- Science Diet cat food and assorted kitty treats were given to Columbia
Second Chance.More help will be needed as the recovery process begins. If you have goods
to donate, feel free to bring them into the Ellis Library staff lounge.
- Non-perishable food items should be placed in the Central Missouri
Food Bank box.- Pet food and pet goods should be placed in the Columbia Second Chance
box.- Clothing, housewares, personal hygiene products, and toys should be
placed in the Bluebird Closet box. The items will be donated to the Salvation
Army, unless we receive a request from the Bluebird Closet in Cole Camp for
a child/family in need.
The FREE bin has seen a lot of action this month with donations of books,
CD jewel cases, DVD cases, a pot of live flowers, and many more goodies. It
can be used by anyone to add or remove giveaway items. Library staff may place
items in good condition to be taken to be taken by anyone. (These are items
that you donât want anymore, but someone else might find useful). Thanks
for sharing!Monetary donations should be sent to me in Acquisitions, 52 Ellis Library.
Checks should be made payable to the charity of your choice. We are currently
accepting monetary donations for the American Red Cross, the Central Missouri
Food Bank, and Columbia Second Chance.Coming soon…the Christmas Families program through the Voluntary Action
