{"id":748,"date":"2009-03-06T09:57:39","date_gmt":"2009-03-06T15:57:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mulibraries.missouri.edu\/newsnotes\/?p=748"},"modified":"2009-03-06T09:57:39","modified_gmt":"2009-03-06T15:57:39","slug":"eva-johnston-exhibit-at-ellis-library","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/library.missouri.edu\/newsnotes\/2009\/03\/06\/eva-johnston-exhibit-at-ellis-library\/","title":{"rendered":"Eva Johnston Exhibit at Ellis Library"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To celebrate <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Women's History Month\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Women%27s_History_Month\">Women&#8217;s History Month<\/a>, the Departments of Classics, Women&#8217;s and Gender Studies, and the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"American Association of University Women\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/American_Association_of_University_Women\">American Association of University Women<\/a>, Columbia Branch, partnered to salute the life and legacy of Eva Johnston. Johnston, a native Missourian, was the first female professor of Classics at MU as well as its first Dean of Women. A residence hall is named in her honor.<\/p>\n<p>The display is entitled &#8220;Eva Johnston: Classicist, Leader, Mentor&#8221; and can be found in a wooden case on the main floor of Ellis Library from March 2 to 31, 2009. It includes photographs, letters, reports, translations, books, and pamphlets all made available courtesy of MU Archives, Western Historical Manuscript Collection, the Classics Department, Ellis Library, and the AAUW- Columbia Branch.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The display text, written by Carlynn Trout, highlights Johnston&#8217;s work as a scholar, teacher, dean, and organizer of various organizations at the University and in Columbia.
