Childhood obesity puts kids at risk for health problems that were once seen only in adults, like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease (Department of Health and Human Services, 2013).<br \/>\nThe good news is that childhood obesity can be prevented! In honor of National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, Healthy for Life encourages your family to:<br \/>\nGet active outside \u2014 walk around the neighborhood, go on a bike ride, or play basketball at the park.<br \/>\nLimit screen time \u2014 keep inactive (sitting down) screen time to 2 hours or less per day.<br \/>\nMake healthy meals \u2014 buy and serve more vegetables, fruits, and whole-grain foods.<br \/>\nTips for parents:<br \/>\no\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Get the kids involved in planning and cooking healthy meals. http:\/\/1.usa.gov\/hnuGz4<br \/>\no\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Use these tips to reduce your child\u2019s screen time. http:\/\/1.usa.gov\/69My6u<br \/>\no\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Make sure your child gets at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
