For several months, bibliographic records based on new cataloging rules (RDA \u2013 Resource Description and Access) have been added to MERLIN.\u00a0 We are transitioning from AACR2 to RDA in our cataloging here, also.<\/p>\n
Here are some changes you will see:<\/p>\n
1) Under AACR2, we abbreviated Department in corporate body names.\u00a0 Under RDA, we will only abbreviate Department if it is used in an abbreviated from by the organization.<\/p>\n
Former:\u00a0 University of Missouri\u2014Columbia.\u00a0 Dept. of Agronomy<\/p>\n
New:\u00a0 University of Missouri\u2014Columbia. Department of Agronomy
\n2) Under AACR2, we abbreviated a lot of words in the physical description.\u00a0 Under RDA, a lot of those words are spelled out.\u00a0 An exception is for centimeter, because cm is considered a symbol and not an abbreviation.<\/p>\n
Former:\u00a0 34 p. : ill. ; 23 cm<\/p>\n
New:\u00a0 34 pages : illustrations ; 23 cm<\/p>\n
