{"id":5528,"date":"2012-10-11T13:58:42","date_gmt":"2012-10-11T19:58:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mulibraries.missouri.edu\/newsnotes\/?p=5528"},"modified":"2012-10-11T13:58:42","modified_gmt":"2012-10-11T19:58:42","slug":"graves-receives-mcmla-outstanding-achievement-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/library.missouri.edu\/newsnotes\/2012\/10\/11\/graves-receives-mcmla-outstanding-achievement-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Graves Receives MCMLA Outstanding Achievement Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rebecca Graves received MCMLA\u2019s highest honor, the 2012 Outstanding Achievement Award.<\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" width=\"1629\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Outstanding Achievement Award<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<table border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Established in 1983, this award honors a member for     contributions to the chapter and its activities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A plaque and travel stipend is awarded to the recipient.     Requirements are membership in MCMLA<br \/>\nfor a minimum of five years and     significant contributions to health sciences\/hospital libraries,<br \/>\nto the     profession and to the goals and objectives of the chapter.<\/p>\n<p>Nominees are judged on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Leadership<\/li>\n<li>Training<\/li>\n<li>Presentations and publications<\/li>\n<li>Library development<\/li>\n<li>Networking<\/li>\n<li>Originality and creativity<\/li>\n<li>Organizational activities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here are some remarks made by Lisa Traditi at the award presentation:<\/p>\n<p><em>Diane Johnson shared, \u201cRebecca\u2019s accomplishments at the national, chapter, and local level are noteworthy and numerous, qualifying her as a Distinguished member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cRebecca\u2019s paper, \u201cRethinking Instruction,\u201d was highlighted by Amy Blevins, one of the official bloggers at the MLA Minneapolis meeting.\u00a0 Amy talks about how Rebecca has mentored her since her library school days.\u00a0 In fact, I think Amy would tell you that she chose her career path as an educational services librarian due to Rebecca.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>That\u2019s not the first time Rebecca\u2019s work has been recognized.\u00a0 Her 1997 MCMLA poster won the research award and she is noted at University of Missouri for her collaboration and generosity in instruction within the schools she serves, even being surprised mid-session with a teaching award from the University of Missouri\u2019s Physical Therapy Department!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>As our annual meeting advisor, Rebecca helps us deliver meetings with the right mix of networking, learning, and teaching in a warm, fun, and relaxing atmosphere. Rebecca has safely guided all of our other local groups through every possible roadblock \u2013 from prima donna presenters and mismanaged hotels to worried meeting treasurers and last minute no show CE trainers. But, she doesn\u2019t stop there.\u00a0 Rebecca serves on other committees \u2013 she recently chaired the Annual Meeting Task Force to evaluate the feasibility of holding business meetings and conferences online. \u00a0\u00a0I believe she also taught a class today, because helping to plan the meeting isn\u2019t enough!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Finally, everyone remembers the first time they saw her dance!\u00a0\u00a0 Pat Hamilton wrote,\u00a0 \u201c\u2026I first became acquainted with her .\u2026 [during] what I believe was her first MCMLA appearance as the now well known \u2018Chapter Belly Dancer.\u201d\u00a0 This was my early indication of the passion and interest that she brings to most everything she does.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cHer enthusiasm and sense of humor are attributes that few can miss.\u00a0 I can generally locate Rebecca in a crowded room by her easy laugh.\u00a0 You can tell she enjoys what she does.\u00a0 She serves informally as one of my many mentors within MCMLA.\u00a0 She\u2019s \u2018been there and done that\u2019 and is ALWAYS willing to share her experiences with others.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Her willingness to share her passion for dancing AND for librarianship with our chapter is a terrific asset; worthy of recognition as the 2012 recipient of the MCMLA Outstanding Achievement Award!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rebecca Graves received MCMLA\u2019s highest honor, the 2012 Outstanding Achievement Award.
