{"id":4661,"date":"2012-03-07T14:25:22","date_gmt":"2012-03-07T20:25:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mulibraries.missouri.edu\/newsnotes\/?p=4661"},"modified":"2012-03-07T14:25:22","modified_gmt":"2012-03-07T20:25:22","slug":"completion-of-reference-collection-shift","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/library.missouri.edu\/newsnotes\/2012\/03\/07\/completion-of-reference-collection-shift\/","title":{"rendered":"Completion of Reference Collection Shift"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Early last week, authorization was granted to move ceased titles of Reference indexes and abstracting sources to the three 202 study rooms\u2014202H, 202I and 202J.\u00a0 The following morning, that move was set in motion.\u00a0 It is now complete.<\/p>\n<p>Listed below are those indexes and abstracting sources that ceased publication, or subscriptions were cancelled.\u00a0 Many of these print titles have been replaced by databases that now provide online access.\u00a0 No dictionaries, encyclopedias or handbooks were included in this particular move.<\/p>\n<p>The list is arranged by call numbers as they appear within the rooms in a continuous format, beginning in Room 202J and ending in Room 202H.\u00a0 This is consistent with the sequence of the BIBLIO arrangement on the periphery in the outer large 202 reading room.\u00a0 The list includes the last year of each publication, the amount of its shelf space and the new location in <strong>Bold<\/strong>, e.g., <strong>Room 202J<\/strong>.\u00a0 Because each title now has a new location, MERLIN Catalog records will be changed, and new location labels will be applied to the physical volumes.<\/p>\n<p>~ ~ ~ ~ ~<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the main Reference collection, that shift to the new footprint was completed March 5.\u00a0 Various individuals are to be commended for their outstanding work in the completion of this major part of the overall project:<\/p>\n<p>Nicki Everett and Brent Willman \u2013 for the necessary prep work in shifting<\/p>\n<p>Pat Jones and Julie Rogers \u2013 for securing areas for construction, especially Room 202<\/p>\n<p>Al Messner \u2013 for providing the necessary components for shelf installation<\/p>\n<p>MRI crew \u2013 for installation of shelves, anchoring shelf ranges, and the major part of the book shifting, including 202 study rooms<\/p>\n<p>Cindy Cotner and Michaelle Dorsey \u2013 for producing labels<\/p>\n<p>Felicity Dykas and her crew \u2013 for MERLIN Catalog changes<\/p>\n<p>The new Reference area is the former location of Documents Lite.\u00a0 Because the Reference shift is now complete, the collection in the new footprint is now open to the public.\u00a0 Reshelving has also moved, now on the last south shelving range.<\/p>\n<p>Disassembly of the shelf ranges in the old footprint has begun in order to provide open space for new carpet to be placed.\u00a0 This area is closed to the public.<\/p>\n<p>~ ~ ~ ~ ~<\/p>\n<p>In Documents, almost all of the print materials, microfiche cabinets and map cases have been moved, but some bulk items need to be positioned.\u00a0 Many of the tables in front of the Documents office have been placed there temporarily, some of which will probably be relocated to the new carpeted area.\u00a0 As usual, aesthetics and function will be the guidelines for table selection and arrangement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Wayne Barnes<br \/>\n<strong>Ceased Titles in 202 Study Rooms<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Arts &amp;
