{"id":3723,"date":"2011-08-19T09:32:49","date_gmt":"2011-08-19T15:32:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mulibraries.missouri.edu\/newsnotes\/?p=3723"},"modified":"2011-08-19T09:32:49","modified_gmt":"2011-08-19T15:32:49","slug":"action-and-informational-items-library-management-team-8911","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/library.missouri.edu\/newsnotes\/2011\/08\/19\/action-and-informational-items-library-management-team-8911\/","title":{"rendered":"Action and Informational Items Library Management Team &#8211; 8\/9\/11"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>LMT members in attendance<\/em>:\u00a0 Jim Cogswell, Ann Riley, Deb Ward, Mike Holland<\/p>\n<p><em>Support<\/em>: Mark Ellis<\/p>\n<p>Informational Item:\u00a0 LMT discussed the Email sent to MU Library employees regarding salary increases.<\/p>\n<p>Informational Item:\u00a0 LMT recommended up to 2% increases for returning students based in merit at the discretion of the student supervisor.<\/p>\n<p>Informational Item:\u00a0 Jim C. will present LMT\u2019s Staffing Strategy to MU Libraries employees during the All-Staff Meeting taking place 8\/18\/11, 2-3:30 pm, in Ellis Auditorium.<\/p>\n<p>Informational Item:\u00a0 Along with the staffing strategy, LMT discussed topics related to that subject such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Career Step-down strategies &#8211; How to help employees who are considering retirement ease into the transition:\n<ul>\n<li>Offering reduced FTE.<\/li>\n<li>Assuring employees that their position will not be eliminated as a result of retirement.<\/li>\n<li>Balancing between openly helping employees make retirement decisions while not offending them or making them feel rushed or unwelcomed to stay.<\/li>\n<li>Enlisting potential retirees to train\/orient replacement staff and to benefit from their valuable experience.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cReceding services\u201d \u2013 some staff members have said that, as MU Libraries respond to demands for new services, some lower priority functions will need to be reduced or eliminated.\n<ul>\n<li>What are these receding service functions?\n<ul>\n<li>Print acquisitions<\/li>\n<li>Binding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Changing the nature of certain services:\n<ul>\n<li>Shift from print Reserves to e-reserves.<\/li>\n<li>Patron photocopying changing to personal digitization.\n<ul>\n<li>Microfilm\/fiche digitization rather than print.<\/li>\n<li>Personal library tours reduced.<\/li>\n<li>Reference desk staffing (shared more by GLA\u2019s, other students,).<\/li>\n<li>Expanded access (beyond books and journals).\n<ul>\n<li>Digital nature of library resources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>We need to shift our capacities to other functions rather than reduce our workforce\n<ul>\n<li>Staffing Plans should reflect meaningful input from staff.<\/li>\n<li>LMT to review notes of 7\/21 All Staff Forum and Mark will send out to all staff.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>LMT will meet on August 16 to review Staffing Strategy and All Staff Meeting material.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LMT members in attendance:\u00a0 Jim Cogswell, Ann Riley, Deb Ward, Mike Holland Support: Mark Ellis Informational Item:\u00a0 LMT discussed the Email sent to MU Library employees regarding salary increases.
