Ex-officio: Deb Ward (LMT), Ann Riley (LMT), Jim Cogswell (Director) Felicity (MULAC), Guest: Kelli Hansen.\u00a0 Absent:\u00a0 PT Martin (Representative from LTS and SRC Chair).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Staff Web \u2013 Jim Cogswell<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jim gave overview of library assembly\u2019s involvement in staff web page update.<\/li>\n<li>Last Fall Jim requested Library Assembly consider taking responsibility for Staff Web Site<\/li>\n<li>Library Assembly created a subgroup to review the page, remove broken links, and try to find out who was responsible for the information posted.<\/li>\n<li>The subgroup presented recommendations at the last meeting (February 2011).<\/li>\n<li>Jim would like to propose a permanent Library Assembly Subcommittee to oversee content on staff web page.<\/li>\n<li>Discussion: No significant comments or discussion.<\/li>\n<li>Stephen Stanton officially motioned Jim\u2019s recommendation.<\/li>\n<li>Steve Clayton seconded.<\/li>\n<li>Motion\u00a0 \u2013 unanimously passed.<\/li>\n<li>Jim volunteered to submit a draft charge.<\/li>\n<li>He suggested up to 3 members.<\/li>\n<li>He will rely heavily on the recommendations of the Library Assembly Staff Webpage Subgroup\u2019s recommendations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>MU Libraries Values statement: <\/strong> Jim would like the Libraries to revisit the MU Libraries Values Statement.\u00a0 (See Appendix A for Value Statement)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He would like to draw in the Library Diversity Action Committee into the discussion to make sure the values relate a sense of inclusion.<\/li>\n<li>Jim would also like to use Library Assembly as mechanism to get staff input on the current statement.<\/li>\n<li>Jim would like to know if staff feel the values statement:<\/li>\n<li>Is it missing anything?<\/li>\n<li>Reflects the organization\u2019s values?<\/li>\n<li>Expresses the values of the Library personnel?<\/li>\n<li>Discussion ensued.\u00a0 (See Appendix B for discussion notes)<\/li>\n<li>Bette asks the representatives to take issue (questions) to constituents and promote discussion<\/li>\n<li>Bring feedback to the Library Assembly for future Library Assembly discussion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>UPDATE:\u00a0 3\/24\/2011 12:59 PM Follow-up email:\u00a0 Jim and Bette ask that departmental discussions include a member of DAC, if possible.\u00a0 Members to contact Leo for scheduling.<br \/>\no\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Timeline:\u00a0 Jim wonders if a new draft could be made available during the celebration of service.\u00a0\u00a0 (Approximately the second week in May).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Library Elections to take place in June 2010:\u00a0 Three members will transition off.\u00a0 Bette read procedures from bylaws. <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Admin will supply list, (Bette checked with Leo Agnew \u2013 he will create ballots.)<\/li>\n<li>The departments whose representative will rotate off are:\u00a0 Acquisitions, Cataloging, Special Collections<\/li>\n<li>New officers will be elected the first meeting in July.<strong> <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Announcements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mark Ellis for Administration: Mark and Shannon (members of the Celebration of Service Committee) would like to use the Library Assembly to help with the planning and feedback process surrounding the Celebration of Service events each year.\u00a0 (It may be too late to have a large impact on this year\u2019s celebration, but in the future it would be helpful to gather staff feedback through the assembly if everyone is agreeable to it.) He will send follow-up email.<\/li>\n<li>Jim:\u00a0 LSO Reorganization &#8211; the electronic resources function and software support will be brought under management of the MU Libraries but will continue to serve the four campuses (much like the UMLD and UMLD2).\u00a0 The digitization function is still under discussion.<\/li>\n<li>Kurt Kopp\u2019s last day will be April 8th.<\/li>\n<li>Next meeting will be April 26th.\u00a0 Pat Jones will discuss the Library Space Planning and Advisory Group.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Appendix A<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Values Statement \u2013 How we conduct ourselves<br \/>\nAs employees of the MU Libraries, we affirm and support the core values of the University of Missouri-Columbia, including respect, responsibility, discovery, and excellence. Freedom of access to information in all forms and for all persons is our most cherished principle. We treasure the library ideals of free speech, open inquiry, accessibility, and equality; all of which are upheld by our collections, our services, our policies, and our procedures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Appendix B<\/strong><br \/>\no\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Library Assembly discussion\u00a0 about MU Libraries Values statement &#8211;\u00a0 some of the suggestions\/comments\u00a0 below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The values guide how the Libraries interact with the public and\u00a0 how staff interact with each other.<\/li>\n<li>There is a distinction between valuing all users and differentiating between levels of users.\u00a0 It was suggested we can value all users while prioritizing how we support different levels of users.<\/li>\n<li>Libraries have to balance values with privacy\/confidentiality (Patron records &amp; Copyright aspects).<\/li>\n<li>Some values\u00a0 that were suggested include:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Honesty, integrity, and trust (People\/Service)<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We build and maintain our collections \u2026 (Stewardship)<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Innovation (Service)<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Open access (Access)<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 Should the statement reference ALA\u2019s \u201cLibrary Bill of Rights\u201d, the \u201cFreedom to Read Statement\u201d, etc.\u00a0 where it refers to \u201clibrary ideals\u201d?
