{"id":2732,"date":"2010-11-05T09:14:06","date_gmt":"2010-11-05T15:14:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mulibraries.missouri.edu\/newsnotes\/?p=2732"},"modified":"2010-11-05T09:14:06","modified_gmt":"2010-11-05T15:14:06","slug":"library-assembly-minutes-oct-26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/library.missouri.edu\/newsnotes\/2010\/11\/05\/library-assembly-minutes-oct-26\/","title":{"rendered":"Library Assembly Minutes, Oct. 26"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Present:<\/strong> <em> members: <\/em>Gary Cox, Mark Ellis, PT Martin*, June DeWeese, Laura Buck, Stephen Stanton, Will McCrary, Suzy Bent, Bette Stuart (chair), Erin Zeller. <em>Ex-officio:<\/em> Felicity Dykas (MULAC Chair), Deb Ward (LMT), Ann Riley (LMT), Jim Cogswell (Director), PT Martin (SRC Chair)*.<\/p>\n<p><em>*listed twice \u2013 as department and SRC representative <\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00d8\u00a0 Introductions: new to meeting= Mark Ellis (replaced Cathy Heckmaster), Erin Zeller (alternate for Special Collections).<\/p>\n<p>\u00d8\u00a0 Recorder:\u00a0 Stephen Stanton stepped down as recorder.\u00a0 Mark Ellis will replace.<\/p>\n<p>\u00d8\u00a0 Minutes from Library Assembly Meeting 9\/28\/10 were accepted as amended:<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Paragraph starting \u201cCathy Heckmaster has accepted\u2026.\u201d, the following text should be added: \u00a0\u201cJim Cogswell\u00a0 (as head of Administration) will appoint a representative for Administration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a7\u00a0 There was discussion about whether or not the procedure for replacing a representative needs clarification in the by-laws.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Paragraph under the heading \u201cStaff Web\u201d the text \u201c \u2026design and usability\u201d should be deleted.<\/p>\n<p>\u00d8\u00a0 Announcements:<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Bette Stuart:<\/strong> Kat Koehn resigned employment at Library.\u00a0 \u00a0Pat Jones to appoint another representative. \u00a0In Acquisitions: Adrienne Arden \u2013 is working 8 hours a week in ILL borrowing Sean Witzman is working 8 hours per week in Electronic Resources.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Jim Cogswell:<\/strong> Jim and LMT have created two new advisory groups<\/p>\n<p>\u00a7\u00a0 <strong><em>Assessment group<\/em><\/strong><em> <\/em>&#8211; motivated by two factors:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ongoing Library need to take pulse of users and judge quality of service.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0New MU Strategic Plan specifically mentions MU Libraries and calls for development of benchmarks and assessment of library collections and services.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Goal = benchmarks and mechanisms for assessment in place Fall Semester 2011.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Membership<\/em><\/strong>: Maryellen Sievert to chair. Dirk Burham and Shannon Cary will assist\/support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 <em>Members<\/em>: Karen Darling, Mary Ryan, Gwen Gray, Nancy Turner-Myers, Caryn Scoville, Gary Cox, Will McCrary.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 First meeting and a webinar will take place within the next two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a7\u00a0 <strong><em>Ellis Space and Facilities Advisory Committee (ESFAC)<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 to advise Jim and LMT how to re-purpose, renovate and reallocate space, furnishings, equipment and facilities in Ellis Library in order to meet user needs and to support the mission of the MU Libraries.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Membership<\/em><\/strong>: Pat Jones to chair.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 <em>Members<\/em>:\u00a0 Wayne Barnes, Ryan Bish, Sandy Schiefer, Wayne Sanders, Michaelle Dorsey, Ernest Shaw and Sheena Waggoner.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 First meeting will take place within the next two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Deb Ward<\/strong>: walk up scanner ordered. \u00a0Coordinators agreed to put the scanner in the OASys \u00a0area on the first floor of Ellis Library. \u00a0Deb invites any others with thoughts to contact her.\u00a0 Should arrive within the next couple of weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u00d8\u00a0 <strong>Staff Web discussion<\/strong>: After review of the current staff webpage, a discussion of the feedback from the departments, and a look at a revised webpage as reformatted by Judy Maseles; the following proposals were made<strong>: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1. <\/strong>Switch to the revised website, and request more feedback. \u00a0<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2. <\/strong>Form a subgroup to periodically review the page and recommend updates\/changes.<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a7\u00a0 Recommendations to be made to whomever it can be determined posted the material.<strong> <\/strong>(e.g. \u00a0Library Administration to be solicited to update\/edit material under the \u201cAdministration\u201d heading, etc.)<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a7\u00a0 The following Library Assembly members volunteered to serve on this subgroup:<strong> <\/strong>Will McCrary (chair), June DeWeese and Laura Buck.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 <strong><em>Outcome:<\/em><\/strong> Proposals were accepted.<\/p>\n<p>\u00d8\u00a0 <strong>How items get put on the Library Assembly agenda \u2013 discussion item<\/strong>: Discussion ensued regarding:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. <\/strong>Who decides if Library Assembly is where a suggested agenda item belongs?<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. <\/strong> If it does not belong in the Library Assembly (needs to be resolved somewhere else), how can it be noted or recorded to the entire Library Assembly so that transparency exists without taking up too much procedural time?<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 <strong><em> Outcome:<\/em><\/strong> No resolution.<\/p>\n<p>\u00d8\u00a0 Agenda item not addressed<strong>: How should the Library Assembly organize and work with other groups? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 To be brought up as first agenda item of the next meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u00d8\u00a0 Meeting adjourned.<\/p>\n<p><em>Submitted by Mark Ellis<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Present: members: Gary Cox, Mark Ellis, PT Martin*, June DeWeese, Laura Buck, Stephen Stanton, Will McCrary, Suzy Bent, Bette Stuart (chair), Erin Zeller.
