{"id":2688,"date":"2010-10-29T10:13:56","date_gmt":"2010-10-29T16:13:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mulibraries.missouri.edu\/newsnotes\/?p=2688"},"modified":"2010-10-29T10:13:56","modified_gmt":"2010-10-29T16:13:56","slug":"library-assembly-minutes-sept-28","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/library.missouri.edu\/newsnotes\/2010\/10\/29\/library-assembly-minutes-sept-28\/","title":{"rendered":"Library Assembly Minutes, Sept. 28"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Present:\u00a0 Gary Cox, Cathy Heckmaster, PT Martin, June DeWeese, Laura Buck, Stephen Stanton, Will McCrary, Jim Cogswell, Suzy Bent, Kat Koehn, Bette Stuart, Alla Barabtarlo, Ann Riley [Member of LMT (Ex-officio)], Felicity Dykas [MULAC Chair (Ex-officio)]\n<p>Guests:\u00a0 Ernest Shaw<\/p>\n<p><strong>Windows 7 and Administrative Rights<\/strong> (Ernest Shaw)In an effort to control viruses, as Windows 7 is put on staff computers, the default will be to make the default a user account rather than an administrator account.\u00a0 This should not affect normal work.\u00a0 Users who need to regularly install programs will need a separate administrative account set up, with supervisor approval.\u00a0 There will be no restriction other than this.\u00a0 A sample Local Administrator Access Agreement was submitted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Announcements<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Open Access Week<\/em> was announced by Anne Riley, sponsored by the MU Libraries, the University Bookstore and SISLT.\u00a0 At 2pm on Tuesday, October 19 at the Reynolds Journalism Institute (RJI 200) Paul Thirion from the University of Liege, Belgium will speak on \u201cOpen Access University Repositories.\u201d\u00a0 Sponsors are SISLT and the RJI Transatlantic Center.\u00a0 Reception to follow 3:30-5 in RJI 100.<\/p>\n<p>At 2pm on Thursday, October 21 in Jesse Wrench Auditorium, Eric Frank from Flatworld Knowledge will speak on \u201cOpen Access Textbook Solutions.\u201d\u00a0 The event will be co-sponsored by the Bookstore.\u00a0 There will be a panel discussion.\u00a0 Refreshments will follow.<\/p>\n<p>Cathy Heckmaster has accepted a new position and Friday will be her last day.\u00a0 Jim Cogswell\u00a0 (as head of Administration) will appoint a representative for Administration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Minutes<\/strong><br \/>\nWe will shorten the time it takes for minutes to be approved and also try to keep them brief.\u00a0 Stephen suggested that we use more of a \u201csummary note\u201d style, and this was considered by all to be a great idea.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Communication<\/strong><br \/>\nA SharePoint site has been established for us to use (in addition to the usual channels).\u00a0 Will will send us the link.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other Library Groups<\/strong><br \/>\nDiscussion deferred until next meeting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Posting open positions<\/strong><br \/>\nThere will be an all-staff email notification for open positions and those positions will be posted for the prescribed open time in the News Notes.\u00a0 We want the most coverage when a vacancy comes open.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Staff Web<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Library Assembly will be responsible for content on the Staff Web page.\u00a0 It shouldn\u2019t be a catch-all and some things shouldn\u2019t be there at all.\u00a0 We\u2019d like to get feedback on what people expect of it.
