At MU Libraries, we\u2019re committed to making access to research more sustainable, affordable and open. And we need your help!<\/span><\/p>\n

In traditional publishing models, scholars surrender their copyright to commercial publishers in order to disseminate their research findings in scholarly journals. Publishers then sell or rent that same content back to the institution through journal subscriptions\u2014at ever increasing prices. This unsustainable practice costs institutions millions of dollars every year and creates barriers to access for many. Open access publishing encourages scholars to retain their rights and make their work freely available online, increasing the availability and impact of research. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What You Can Do:<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Retain Your Rights:\u00a0<\/b>No matter where you publish, the single most important thing you can do to make scholarly publishing more sustainable and equitable is\u00a0<\/span>Retain Your Rights<\/span><\/a>. It\u2019s your copyright \u2013 don\u2019t just sign it away! Contracts are often negotiable. And read those agreements: you may have more rights to share your research than you realize.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Know Your Options:\u00a0<\/b><\/span>Choose the right venue<\/span><\/a>\u00a0for your research and know your\u00a0<\/span>open access<\/span><\/a>\u00a0options. If you\u2019re an editor or manuscript reviewer, ask about the journal\u2019s OA options.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

S<\/b><\/span>hare Your Work:\u00a0<\/b>Deposit your research in\u00a0<\/span>MOspace<\/span><\/a>, MU\u2019s Digital Institutional Repository.\u00a0Submitting your work\u00a0<\/a>to\u00a0MOspace\u00a0is easy. Just log in with your SSO and complete the Creative Commons license.<\/span><\/p>\n
