Description: Charles Mason Hovey was a horticulturalist and author. The Fruits of America was his best-known work. Spurred by national pride and a desire to showcase American fruits, he compiled the information and illustrations in this book and published it in parts between 1848 and 1856. The copy in Special Collections is two volumes bound into one. For more of the wonderful chromolithographs, see the digital edition at the Biodiversity Heritage Library.
