{"id":14,"date":"2013-05-29T20:21:23","date_gmt":"2013-05-29T20:21:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/library.missouri.edu\/engineering\/?page_id=14"},"modified":"2024-08-08T03:06:42","modified_gmt":"2024-08-08T03:06:42","slug":"collections","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/library.missouri.edu\/engineering\/collections","title":{"rendered":"Collections"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 CLASS=\"gold-line\">COLLECTIONS<\/h2>\n<p>The Engineering Library has supported the College of Engineering&#8217;s research and teaching missions since its establishment in 1905.&#160;The library&#160;currently collects in the following areas: Chemical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and Nuclear Engineering.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Library Stacks<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The library stacks are open to all users and browsing is encouraged.&#160; Book are located on the far side of the library, while bound journals are shelved on the near side, with the computers.&#160;<\/li>\n<li>In addition to&#160;the on-site collection, many&#160;lower-demand books&#160;are now housed off-site at the University of Missouri Libraries Depository (UMLD).&#160; Books located at UMLD may be requested by patrons through our online catalog and are generally delivered within a day or two.<\/li>\n<li>New books are located on the bookcase directly across from the Circulation Desk and may be checked out at any time. A list of all <a href=\"http:\/\/library.missouri.edu\/collections\/newbooks\/default.aspx\">new books<\/a> received in the library is also posted online monthly.<\/li>\n<li>We focus our collection on research materials and do not, as a rule, collect textbooks.&#160;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>eBooks\/Journals<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Engineering Library&#160;has a large collection&#160;of <a href=\"http:\/\/library.missouri.edu\/engineering\/ebooks\/\">electronic books<\/a> and journals.&#160; These items are may be accessed from anywhere by MU-affiliated patrons and generally offer full-text searching capabilities.&#160; They include:\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/proxy.mul.missouri.edu\/login?url=http:\/\/site.ebrary.com\/lib\/umcolumbia\">Ebrary collection<\/a>, with more than 4,000 Computer Science and Engineering books,<\/li>\n<li>Over 600 full-text IAEA reports related to nuclear engineering available through <a href=\"http:\/\/proxy.mul.missouri.edu:2048\/login?url=http:\/\/www.myilibrary.com\/browse\/open.asp\">MyiLibrary<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/proxy.mul.missouri.edu\/login?url=http:\/\/app.knovel.com\/web\/browse.v?jsp=browse\/subject\/-6\/topic\/100407\/filter\/0\">Knovel Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Collection<\/a>, with 185 titles ranging from standard, general reference books to subject-specific handbooks.<\/li>\n<li>E-Journals:&#160;Seventy-five percent of all engineering journal&#160;titles are now online. Patrons can use&#160;the <a href=\"http:\/\/finditatmu.library.missouri.edu\/\">Journal Finder<\/a> to search&#160;the online collection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Reference Collection<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Print reference books (bibliographies, encyclopedias, handbooks, dictionaries, etc.) and indexes and abstracts are shelved in Library of Congress call number order in two counter-high book cases.&#160;&#160; These materials do not circulate.&#160;<\/li>\n<li>Many of our most frequently used <a href=\"library.missouri.edu\/engineering\/collections\/ebooks\">reference books<\/a>, such as the <a href=\"http:\/\/proxy.mul.missouri.edu:2048\/login?url=http:\/\/proxy.mul.missouri.edu\/login?url=http:\/\/products.asminternational.org\/hbk\/index.jsp\">ASM Handbook<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/proxy.mul.missouri.edu\/login?url=http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/mrw\/advanced\/search?doi=10.1002\/0471238961\">Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology<\/a>, may now be found online.&#160;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Microfiche\/Film<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The library has&#160;an extensive collection of uncataloged reports and documents issued by the Department of Energy and Nuclear Regulatory Commission available on microfiche.&#160;The Engineering Library also received the SAE Technical Papers on microfiche through 1989.&#160; One microfiche reader is available for use.&#160;&#160; Patrons may ask at the circulation desk if they need assistance.&#160;&#160;Patrons who wish to view microfilm must check it out and take it to the Special Collections area on the fourth floor of Ellis Library.&#160; Microfiche may also be scanned or copied at Ellis Library.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>COLLECTIONS The Engineering Library has supported the College of Engineering&#8217;s research and teaching missions since its establishment in 1905.&#160;The library&#160;currently collects in the following areas: Chemical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and Nuclear Engineering.
