FAQs:

Q: What will happen at the Centennial Planning Event on December 12?
A: Phil Shearrer will lead a brainstorm session to help generate ideas for how we might celebrate the library’s centennial in ways that highlight the mission of the MU Libraries.

Q: When will the Centennial celebration take place?
A: The celebration will be comprised of many events taking place of over the course of the 2015-2016 academic year.

Q: How will the Centennial events schedule be organized?
A: The Centennial Planning Committee will plan and carry out three “signature” events to take place Sep 2015, Jan 2016 and April 2016.  In addition, we hope to have at least one event per month organized by individual library units, branches, divisions, committees, workgroups, etc., for the remaining months of that academic year.  Some events may be small in scope [allowing more than one event per month] and some more complex.   We want to highlight all aspects of the MU Libraries, so we encourage branches as well as individual units to plan events.

Q: There are not enough employees in my unit to form a group for the brainstorm session.  What are my options?
A:  We still need your ideas!  We will make seating arrangements for all who come as individuals, placing them with groups.  (You will not be committed to that group beyond the brainstorm session.) If you have at least two people, you could form your own group.

More options:

  • Invite students to join you.  December 12 falls on the Thursday of finals week.  You may invite library student workers but must pay them for their time.  You can invite students who are not library employees to participate as volunteers.
  • Contact friends/colleagues in advance and ask them to join you at your brainstorm table.  If you get commitments, please add them to the head count when you send us the RSVP for your group.
  • Invite interested faculty to join your brainstorm group.

Q: If I cannot come to the Dec 12 session, will I (or my unit) still be able to propose an event?
A: Absolutely.  The event application form will be made available to everyone, and the Centennial Planning Committee will begin accepting applications in January 2014.
