On Jan. 9, 1892, a fire tore through Academic Hall, the crown jewel of what was then known as Missouri State University in Columbia, Mo., leaving little in its wake except for the six iconic columns that still stand on @mizzou's campus. Shortly after the fire, G.F. Rothwell, president of the university's board of curators, famously said, “Let these columns stand.
