|Description:||This is an early 18th-century edition of Gavin Douglas’ translation of the Aeneid into Scots. Douglas was Bishop of Dunkeld and had a prominent political career, but is best known for his literary achievements. His translation of the Aeneid is the first into an Anglic language.|
|Condition/Repair:||The front board and spine are completely detached from the text block, and only connected to the rest of the book by the rear board. Several pages are missing and have been replaced with photostats of the originals. The conservator will remove the photostat pages and rebind the book in calf.|
